Why email the agent instead of the vendor

The certificate is issued by the vendor's insurance agent or broker (the "Producer" box on the ACORD 25). Asking the agent directly is usually faster and the certificate comes from the source, which makes it harder to alter.

Additional insured: ask, don't assume

Checking the "ADDL INSD" box on a certificate does not by itself add you to the policy; the policy needs an endorsement. If your contract requires additional insured status, ask the agent for the endorsement page too.
